Clubbing and Night-Life in Kuta, BaliA Short Guide to Kuta's Best Late-Night Locations
Bali, Island of the Gods, an oasis of tropical beauty located east of Java in Indonesia is known for its beaches, shopping and most importantly: a thriving night-life.
There are a range of options to consider when looking for a good night out on the small, tropical island of Bali in Indonesia, however no matter what conclusion is made, a night out to be remembered is assured. The tiny island was relatively tourist-free up until the 1980's when travelling surfers discovered the white sand beaches and rolling swell. Since this time tourists have flooded to the island from all across the world attracted by the surf and bargain prices and with such an influx of holiday-makers happy in spirit, a night-life to be rivalled soon developed. At the centre of this is the area of Kuta, what could only be called the partying and shopping district of Bali which offers three main partying areas. Jalan LegianJalan Legian, located in the heart of Kuta, the main tourist area in Bali, is a street which thrives with shoppers and diners during the day only to truly awake in the evening as people flock to the various assortment of bars and clubs. The two most popular venues along this strip are The Bounty, an infamous club designed in the shape of a large ship and MBarGo, which opened across from the old Sari Club after the Bali Bombings. These, as well as Hook, Sky Garden, MyRoom and a number of smaller nearby bars are all located within a half kilometre of each other and all offer a general mix of Hip-Hop and R'n'B. Alternatively, on the other end of the street lies Peanuts, home of the legendary Peanuts Pub Crawl where patrons are taken in the historic Peanuts car to various bars in the Kuta area. Live bands play almost every night in the back room and as a biker bar Peanuts offers a more rock orientated DJ set. The road is one of the more cheaper locations after dark in Bali and starts to get busy at around 11 pm, peaking between 1 and 2 in the morning before easing down until around 4 30 am. Double Six BeachDouble six beach is perhaps the most popular night-life zone in Bali with many of the islands premier night-clubs situated right next to each other. These include Double Six Club, the original club on the beach and the largest night-club in Bali, Syndicate, a newly opened R'n'B Bar which offers a Drum'n'Bass night each friday, DeJaVu and Baccio, a newly opened, disco-orientated club. These clubs all play a variable mix of electronic, house and trance beats by a number of Indonesia's top Disc Jockeys. This area is slightly more expensive then Jalan Legian however will make little to no difference on a travellers pocket. Again the nights here are late with customers arriving at around 11 pm again and sometimes not leaving until up to 7 am. Jalan Dhyana PuraJalan Dhyana Pura is a very popular albeit alternative area for night-life in Bali with a range of lap-dancing bars (strip-bars are of course prohibited, Indonesia is predominantly Mueslim), sports bars and gay bars however is certainly most famous for the last of these. The street is home to Kudos, Bali's largest gay night-club, as well as many other gay clubs and as a result the street is often scattered with men, women and all that's in between in a variety of appearances from 9 pm until midnight, although festivities carry on to the early hours of the morning. The area of Kuta is one of the best partying areas in Indonesia located on one of the best partying islands in the world. Despite the horrific and unfair setback which was the Bali Bombings of 2002, Bali has recovered and is growing once more into the beautiful, island, party paradise it certainly is.
